What is the Bay Area chapter? At the prompting of Elisa, Jonah Benningfield started a second chapter of the California Young Birders' Club. The vision is that the two groups can eventually combine funds and build a bigger network than either section would have done alone. By now, the branch has run a number of successful trips, and we are planning some even bigger trips this year in 2018. This group runs out of the San Francisco Bay Area, and is open to anyone living in any of the counties surrounding the bay, or even beyond, if you're alright making slightly longer commutes sometimes. The Bay Area and coastal Southern California are the two places that contain a large portion of the avian population in California, and so this will probably be the final area covered for California Young Birders Club, unless someone steps up to take another portion of the state.
How can I help? If you're a young birder: Fill out the membership form on the "Join" page and we'll email you back with information within 3 days. If you're an adult: Email your inquiry to firstname.lastname@example.org or email@example.com and we'll get back to you right away.
How far has the chapter been developed? Our first field trip took place in April 2017, and as of the latest update to this page (February 2018), we are a fully organized group with 16 members. We run trips once a month, often to different locations around the Bay Area, but sometimes further afield, such as the Central Valley, and we're even planning a trip the Sierras for July, 2018.
